Adoption Procedure

1. Fill out the application for adoption and mail or fax to the address or fax number listed on the last page of the application. Make sure you are very thorough on the application. We need three references from family members, neighbors or friends. The personal references should be people you could depend on to care for your pets if you should have to travel in the event of an emergency. We also need information on your current veterinarian. If you do not have a vet, just leave it blank. We can recommend one in your area.

2. After receiving the application and checking references, we will contact you to schedule a home visit. The visit will be done by one or two of our volunteers listed on the contacts page. Our volunteers are very knowledgeable about dobermans and rescue. The purpose of the home visit is two-fold. First, we want to meet you in person. Hopefully you will keep in regular contact with us so that we will be able to assist you with questions and/or concerns with your new Doberman. Second, the volunteer will discuss the remainder of the adoption process with you, and schedule a time for you to meet some of the dogs.

3. After we find a good match for you and your family, we have two more contracts we need you to sign. The Placement Agreement and Conditions of Acquisition. You will find these forms on the Adoption Contracts page of the website. The adoption fee will be collected in full upon taking possession of the dog. Our preference is a personal check, cashier’s check or money order made out to “BVDR”. We hold the adoption fee for 30 days after the contracts are signed.

4. Our adoption fees are as follows:
i) Juveniles or Adults with natural (uncropped) ears and natural (undocked) tails: $100
ii) Juveniles or Adults with natural ears and docked tail:$150.
iii) Juveniles or Adults with cropped ears and docked tail:$200
iv) Puppies under six (6) months of age with natural ears and natural tail: $150
v) Puppies with natural ears and docked tail: $250
vi) Puppies with cropped ears and docked tail: $300
vii) Senior dogs (over 8 years old as determined by a veterinarian) $50 to $100 depending on age of the dog.

The adoption fee is used to care for our rescue dogs. If there are question on the adoption procedure, please contact one of us. We will be glad to assist you with your questions or concerns.
